This Privacy Policy explains how The Golfers App ("TGA," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by TheGolfersApp, collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. Questions? Reach us at support@thegolfersapptga.com.
1Who this applies to
The Service is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it.
2Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information: your email address and password (stored in encrypted/hashed form and never visible to us).
- Profile information: your display name, bio, profile photo, cover photo, handicap index, home courses, and avatar.
- Content you create: challenge posts, match results and scores, ratings you give other players, direct messages you send, and any reports you submit.
- Shipping address (optional): if you choose to claim a free founding-member gift (such as a gold ball marker), the name and mailing address you enter — used only to ship the item to you, and never posted or shared.
- Purchase records: if you buy a membership, register for a tournament, or book a paid session, we store a record of that purchase — what it was for, the amount, the date, whether it is active or refunded, and an identifier from the payment provider. We never receive or store your full card number, security code, or bank details. See section 5.
Information generated through use
- Activity data: your matches, rounds, scores, win/loss record, handicap history, and rankings.
- Safety data: users you block, reports you file, and moderation actions on your account.
- Location: when you create your account we check your device’s location once, with your permission, to verify the city you’re joining — so each city’s leaderboards stay made of real, local golfers. This one-time check is used only to confirm your city; it is not stored as precise coordinates, not tracked over time, and never shared. Your selected city is then shown in your profile and powers the city leaderboards and “The Network.” You may decline the permission, but you won’t be able to join a city without it.
Information collected automatically
- Device and technical data: basic device information and a push-notification token (if you enable notifications).
- Usage and log data: standard technical information generated when you use the app, used to operate and improve the Service.
3How we use your information
We use your information to create and manage your account and handicap; operate core features (matchmaking, challenges, leaderboards, The Network, messaging, and ratings); send notifications you've enabled; keep the Service safe by reviewing reports and enforcing our rules; maintain and improve the Service; and respond to your support requests.
We do not sell your personal information.
4How we share information
- With other users: your profile, ratings, rankings, challenge posts, and messages you send are visible to other users as part of the Service. Your email and password are never shared with other users.
- Service providers: we use trusted third parties to run the Service, who process data on our behalf under contract: Supabase (database, authentication, and storage), Expo (push-notification delivery), Resend (transactional email such as sign-in codes and password resets), Sightengine (automated screening of uploaded photos before they appear), Stripe (payments and instructor payouts), RevenueCat (subscription receipt validation), and Apple (App Store purchases). We do not authorise them to use your information for their own purposes.
- Legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or TGA.
- Business transfers: if TGA is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
5Payments and purchases
We are never in possession of your payment details. Card numbers, security codes, and bank details are entered on the payment provider’s own screens and go directly to them. TGA receives only the result — paid or not paid, active or expired — and the reference we need to match it to your account.
- Memberships are sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment under Apple’s own privacy policy and tells us, through RevenueCat, whether your subscription is active, which tier you hold, and when the current period ends. We store that, plus the transaction identifier. We do not receive your Apple ID password or payment method.
- Tournament green fees and paid sessions are processed by Stripe. Stripe receives your card details directly; we store the amount, the status, and Stripe’s reference for the payment or refund. Your bank statement will show TGA GOLF.
- Instructor payouts. If you are a verified coach or host and set up payouts, Stripe collects your identity and bank details on its own hosted pages to meet financial regulations. Those details are held by Stripe, not by TGA, and we cannot see or edit them.
- Member check-ins. When you redeem a member benefit at a partner course we record which course, which benefit, and when — so caps such as one voucher per check-in can be enforced and so the course can be paid or credited correctly. Partner courses see that a valid member checked in; they do not receive your email address, your payment details, or your data from the rest of the app.
Purchase records are kept after a purchase ends because we are required to retain financial records — see section 6.
6Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information, except where we are required to retain certain records for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention purposes. In particular, records of payments, refunds, and payouts are kept for the period required by tax and accounting law, and scorecard photos may be kept as evidence if a scoring dispute has been raised. Deleting your TGA account does not cancel an App Store subscription — you must cancel that through Apple.
7Your rights and choices
- Access and update your profile information in the app.
- Delete your account and associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account.
- Notifications: turn push notifications on or off in your device settings.
- Privacy rights: depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your information. Contact us at support@thegolfersapptga.com to exercise them.
8Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted storage of credentials and access controls that limit who can view your data. No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and respond to issues promptly.
9Children
The Service is not directed to and may not be used by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
